The E-Realm of Aaron Kavli

Greetings electronic traveler, ye who reaches out with the hands of technology to touch that underlying world which we have created known as "the web".  Having stumbled onto this small pebble of the electronic beach as it were, you shall find resources dedicated to those things I find of interest.  Mostly this site is about my favorite hobby; role-playing games.

Role playing games (RPGs) to me are like an interactive book of sorts, written collectively by the players.  Role playing allows a door into far off worlds away from the mundane.  The main purpose of such games is to let your imagination take on the role of a character, any you like.  This could be a 12th century Viking raiding shores far and near, a mighty battle mage from the world of Thraa fighting back the hordes of the Demon King, a modern day secret agent thwarting the subversive efforts of terrorists, or even a rogue in the far future jumping from planet to planet one warp ahead of the Imperium with the occasional blaster exchange.

The number of games and environments are as varied as the worlds people's minds have created.  And the best worlds of all in my opinion are the one's we make ourselves.  If you can read this, I'm sure you can find the sites of all manner of games and worlds.

The GM (game master), referee, Dungeon Master, controller- which ever you prefer, is responsible for controlling the world in which the players adventure.  The GM is responsible for ensuring the details of the world are described, that the story unfolds in as fun and enjoyable way as possible.  This is of course dependent on the actions of the players and the PC's (Player Characters) they control.  It's all fine and well to plan on heroic quests and deeds of bravery.  But as the saying goes, you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink.  I've personally never tried, but I have it on good authority that this is true.  Being as the PC's may do anything under the sun (if there's a sun where they happen to be that is!) making such plans is problematical.  Perhaps they will run at the first sign of danger (actually a sign of good role-playing or GMing), maybe they will end up dead with their dreams in the field of battle.  They just might even go some odd place uninvolved with the adventure and force the GM to change his entire story.  But being fluid enough to take this on is part of being a good GM.

This is the "launch pad" for the actual body of this site.  The site is divided up into three main areas...

This area is devoted to my all time favorite RPG; HarnMaster.  A richly detailed fantasy world, this game is well developed and excellent.

HRT Larani Page:  I am also the Religious co-ordinator for the above mentioned HarnMaster for the goddess Larani.  This area has articles and information concerning the aspects of Laranian religion.  HRT (Harn Religions Team) is a group of fans who volunteer their time and efforts to help expand the religious world of Harn.

®   is an excellent, generic RPG system.  Here you will find my conversions (including Harn and Wheel of Time), my house rules, and other tid bits.  CORPS is after all, a generic system, but I have decided to put my efforts into my new worlds using GURPS. I have not utterly abandoned my friend, CORPS, however. Come see MY CORPS PAGE.

®    is my new game system of choice.  Liking both CORPS and GURPS, I play tested each and decided that GURPS actually is more to my style.  Here you will find my conversions (including Harn and Wheel of Time), my house rules, and other tid bits.  With the release of TransHuman Space I am also in the process of putting up some of my home brew worlds: The Seven Star Empire (a fantasy world in a magical holocaust), Earth: Phoenix (a sci-fi setting far in the future), and Eagles in the Dark (A Roman Empire alternate history/fantasy).  These worlds are written for GURPS, but the histories and such are quite usable for any system.  GURPS is after all, a generic system. Come see MY GURPS PAGE.

What about me? you ask.  Well, if you must know.  I'm currently 30, going on 15 and work as an electronics technician.  Note that is not the same as a computer technician or programmer, which explains my fairly simple web pages.  I'm married to the most wonderful wife a fella could have, Chrissie.  I have three dogs, totaling about 180lbs all told, that I rent my house from.  Athena, Freya, and Buddy (Buddy was previously named and we thought it might confuse him to start calling him Apollo or Agamemnon or something).

Besides whiling away my time writing up Harn articles, I also am an active member in the SCA, a medieval recreation group where I like to hit people with sticks.  I like getting hit back less, but that is part of the fun.  There I am Drugan Draganov, a 10th century Rus and squire to Sir Griffin O'suaird.  I have practiced calligraphy, in which I do fairly well.  I suggest checking it out if that sort of thing interests you.  It's a good group and if nothing else has several resources available concerning historical facts and can help develop any game.

I also play other games, and paint fantasy miniatures for them.  With well over 100 painted, they take up a fair amount of space.

I also aspire to be a novelist, and have recently finally gotten off my ass and started my first book.  Well, I've actually started three books, but this one is the first real effort.

We (being myself, my wife, and three four legged children) reside in Tennessee, about an hour west of Nashville.  We have yet to be tricked into enslaving ourselves with a state income tax, and hopefully won't.  Death to taxes!
